Wilos project orchestration software

One of the interesting opportunities created by rendering a process using EPF Composer is the ability to manipulate process elements in an orchestration engine. EPFC uses a standardized XMI meta-model to store process data, which makes it possible to write software that manipulates it - or chunks of it.

Blah blah blah. What does this really mean?

Well, it means that you can write software that reads up the process meta-data and converts it into a stack of tasks that need to be performed by people (assigned to roles) that deliver products. A task management application, if you like.

The current buzzword that applies to this is process enactment.

One such application - Wilos - has already been developed by a group of students in France. Wilos is an open source project, so you can download for free. The project is still in the early stages of development but from what I have seen after installing and running a recent build, it looks like a very promising concept.

It's worth a look.

DSDM Plugin 0.9 available from eclipse plugin central

Whilst I finalise the DSDM plug-in for version 1.0, I have posted a link to the current 0.9 version up on www.eclipseplugincentral.com

It can be found under the Process category, along with the Agile Enterprise Architecture plug-in from Charles Edwards. Charles' work is very good and you should check it out if (like me) you have an interest in Enterprise Architecture.

The Week Just Gone, Part 2 - EPF User Group anyone?

The European Face to Face meeting (Nov 9/10) was another very good session. There were a number of key decisions, probably most significant (to me) was the decision to lauch a European EPF User Group. We have targeted February 21/22 as possible dates for a first meeting, probably around the Heathrow area, and we were able to draw up a strong list of potential speakers very quickly. More work and thought will be needed but if you are interested in taking part please get in touch.
